What's next... Session 2015

Date: 8 October 2015

Time: 10:15–13:30

Location: TechARENA 2, Messe Dresden

Until recently, the microelectronics roadmap was governed by dimensional scaling of the digital building blocks, as described by Moore’s Law. Miniaturization of transistors has been driving the development of microprocessors and solid state memories for decades. Today, heterogeneous integration of both digital and non-digital functionalities (e.g. sensors, actuators, RF, power management) into smart compact systems has become a basic enabler for the generation of new products. At the same time, technology trends are increasingly determined by requirements from the various application domains, such as health care, communication, automotive, security, and so on.

In this session, trends in semiconductor process and materials technologies will be presented from the application perspective. The implications of new developments such as the ‘internet of things’, quantum computing and big data science for the technology roadmap will be discussed.
